Join us in Newport Beach
Beautiful Newport Beach is the setting for this year's California Society of Addiction Medicine Review Course, one of the premier review conferences on the field of addiction medicine in the nation. Whether you are preparing for the American Board of Addiction Medicine certification exam, refreshing your knowledge of the addiction medicine field, or learning about the diagnosis and treatment of addictions, this course has something to offer everyone.
Our conference includes an extraordinary schedule of the pre-eminent leaders in the field. The conference will open with Dr. Tom McLellan, who will speak about his experience in the creation of public policy on addictions from a national perspective. Dr. Frank Vocci will also provide an update on the latest in receptor pharmacology and medical management of addictions. Other speakers will include Dr. Marc Fishman, who will discuss the special needs of the adolescent population when diagnosing and treating addictions, and Dr. Richard Ries will provide an overview of dual diagnosis. Other topics include the role of 12-Step in treatment of addictions and discussion of substance abuse and misuse during pregnancy, as a well as a comprehensive review of the substances of abuse. A CSAM tradition, small group discussion of cases relevant to the topics presented will complement the didactic lectures and provide an experiential learning format. On Thursday evening of the conference, Dr. Reef Karim will provide a unique perspective on the treatment of celebrities with addictions.
For those who are preparing for the American Board of Addiction Medicine certification exam, a special exam track will again be available to help individuals prepare for the exam.
A pre-conference workshop day will occur on Wednesday, October 27 and will include topics as diverse as the management of pain and addictions, advanced topics in the clinical use of buprenorphine, case based discussions of complex detoxifcation strategies and special workshops on medical marijuana and physician well-being committees.
I hope that you will join us in Newport Beach in October, and I look forward to seeing you there.
