Scholarships for Physicians-in-Training
To increase the opportunities for residents to learn about the diagnosis and treatment of alcoholism and other drug dependencies, scholarships are offered to the conference Review Course in Addiction Medicine , October 4-7, 2006, in downtown San Francisco

The scholarship provides the conference registration and a stipend to help offset overnight costs for those coming from outside the San Francisco commute area. A limited number of scholarships include airfare from southern California.

To be considered, you must submit the enclosed application no later than August 25, and the Program Director must submit a letter by that date.

Activities for residents – such as case discussions, brief meetings with faculty members, one dinner meeting – are scheduled throughout the conference. Scholarship recipients are expected to sit together during the conference and participate in all the activities. On the application form, you are asked to acknowledge that you understand that your participation with the other residents is expected over the whole time from Thursday morning to Saturday adjournment.

As part of the application, we ask for suggestions from both the resident and the Program Director on how to incorporate training and clinical experiences into the residency.

We regret that incomplete applications or applications received after August 25 cannot be considered.

Scholarships will be awarded and physicians notified by September 1 (4 weeks prior to the conference.) For other information, contact the scholarship coordinator, Gail Jara at 510/547-6989 or gailjara@pacbell.net

The Medical Education and Research Foundation for the Treatment of Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies was created by the California Society of Addiction Medicine in 1981 to support medical education about addiction.

Each year since 1992, the Foundation has awarded scholarships for residents to attend a conference in addiction medicine. Scholarships are funded by tax-deductible donations to the Foundation.
