About CSAM

CSAM is a specialty society of physicians founded in 1973. Since 1989, CSAM has been a State Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).

CSAM Mission Statement: The specific purpose of the Society is to advance the treatment of alcoholism and other addictions through education of physicians, physicians-in-training, and other health professionals. Additionally, the Society promotes research, prevention, and implementation of evidence-based treatment.

WHAT DOES CSAM DO?

The annual Review Course or State of the Art Course (alternating years)

The newsletter is published three times a year. It features articles of clinical interest as well as reports of activities and projects of like-minded colleagues throughout the State.

The CSAM Committee on the well-being of physicians develops guidelines and information for physician health activities.

CSAM, together with the California Medical Association, the California Psychiatric Association, the California Hospital Association and the Permanente Medical Group, is working toward establishment of a non-profit state-wide organization to be called Califonria Physician Health, Inc. to meet the needs of the medical community and the public after the close of the Medical Board of California's Diversion Program for Physicians in 2008.

CSAM provides the voice of the addiction medicine specialist on public policy and clinical issues in California.
