Oppose Defunding of CURES

California's prescription monitoring program, known as "CURES" is scheduled to lose its funding on January 1, 2012. "CURES" stands for Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System. The program was designed to assist in the reduction of pharmaceutical drug diversion without affecting legitimate medical practice and patient care. Cures does the following:

  • Provides patient activity reports (PAR) to the medical community
  • Provides investigative referrals to Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE) field offices
  • Prints out requests to outside law enforcement for assistance in investigations
  • Provides specialized reports to researchers and statistical data to determine drug trends either statewide or region specific

Please join CSAM in contacting the the Governor and the Attorney General to urge them to intervene to reinstate funding for CURES.
